Updated Timetable - Baulkham Hills TAFE

Hi All,

A new timetable has been uploaded to the Moodle documents site.

A few pointers…

1.       The pdf will require v10 or later of Adobe reader to open (it’s free, so why not update yours?). Currently Adobe is up to v11 or higher.

2.       The Cert-III timetable is now fixed for the final classes (payments, receipts, etc…) so Cert-III people please pay careful attention to the new timetable.

3.       There has been a tiny (1-week) change to the Night Cert-IV Accounting/Bookkeeping group. 1 extra week on BSBFIA401 has been added.

As always, the link is below – remember to select ‘login as guest’.

Chris.

p.s. I don’t email you at 1am, that’s just when the auto-email annoucement thing does what it does :)

Tablets, phones and translators in TAFE classrooms

Hello All,

We have had several issues in recent weeks with students video-recording their teachers and classes, phones being used to take images of the smart boards, ‘quick photos’ being snapped of exam/assessment questions, etc..

There are serious issues involved, including privacy and copyright legislation. To allow students to make these recordings/copies/images can place TAFE in breach of these laws. Students making unauthorised recordings/copies/images are breaching copyright legislation.

I would like to highlight to all students:

1.       Your phone/tablet needs to be off in class.

2.       You cannot use your phone (or tablet) to take images of assessment tasks. This applies before and after marking.

3.       Similarly, you cannot use your phone (or table) to take images of the boards in class.

4.       You cannot record your class, whether using video or audio recordings.

5.       You cannot use your phone/tablet as a calculator.

6.       If you need a translator (foreign language / English) it needs to be a paper dictionary. Electronic devices (apart from calculators) are not permitted in supervised assessments.

The one exception regarding these devices might be (for example) in the Payroll class, where there is an ATO ‘app’ necessary for some of the calculations.

Apart from that exception, all students are reminded that as per the Learner Guide, Student Responsibilities, mobile phones need to be switched off when in the college environment.

Particularly in relation to supervised assessment tasks;  when preparing your supervised assessments each question has been through quality assurance processes that can take months, including QA with other teachers, QA with other colleges, and QA with industry representatives. At the end of this process we have valid and industry-relevant assessments aligned to your units of study. Within supervised assessments those questions are not released expect for use in those supervised conditions. Once a copy is made by any student, the question can basically not be used in the future (other students may have had access to the question prior to the assessment, the assessment is no longer fair for all students). In that situation the question is then removed from the ‘pool of questions’ that we have, and we need to start from scratch to replace it.

Thank you for your cooperation!

Cheers…

Chris

FNSACC402 - budgeting

FNSACC402 – Operational budgets

If you are a Cert-IV Accounting student, please check your ILP to see if you are taking the unit FNSACC402 (budgeting) this semester.

If you need budgeting this semester:

·         Please attend the Tuesday lab this week 15th March to receive the delivery guide, and sign on for the unit.

·         Also please attend the first budgeting workshop next week on 22nd March. Day students 1pm, Night students 6pm.

·         Note there is some pre-reading from the text to be ready for that first workshop. By now (week 7) everyone should have the text.

If you’re getting this twice – I tried to find everyone’s email… but just in case this has also gone up here on the WIKI announcements thingamajig – that will release at 1am or whatever silly time the computer does it.

Cheers…

Chris
